As part of its monthly patch program, Google has also released a security update for Android for April, which closes many security gaps discovered in the previous month - information on this can be found directly on Google . Samsung also grabs the monthly updates and adapts them for their own Galaxy smartphones.
The updates usually appear first for the top models, but many older devices still receive patches.
The April update fixes numerous security vulnerabilities in the Android operating system, six of which are classified as critical and 37 as high . The detailed content of the April patch can be found on the Samsung website .
Samsung is now making the update available for download for the first smartphone models . In the S series, the update has so far reached the Galaxy S21 and S20 smartphones, the S10 series and the Galaxy S9 series . The Galaxy Z Fold 2, the Galaxy Z Flip and the Galaxy Fold as well as the Galaxy Note20, Note10 , Note9 and Note8 series have also already received the new patch. In addition, the update will be distributed on the Galaxy A71, F6, A52 5G, A51, A52 and Tab S6 , as reported by SamMobile , among others. Further Galaxy models are likely to follow soon; A list of all cell phones that are likely to receive the patch can be found in the further course of the text.
To ensure that your device is protected against the security gaps, you should install the updates offered as soon as possible. The installation usually takes place over-the-air, i.e. without the smartphone having to be connected to a computer. A communicated note informs users about the assesebility of security updates. Alternatively, it is possible to manually check in the system settings whether there are any updates. Please also note that updates are often played out in several waves and made available at different speeds from country to country - it is therefore possible that the update will only be available to you at a later point in time. In addition, you should download the update via WLAN if possible in order to save data volume, since the updates usually comprise several hundred MB.
In order not to expose yourself to unnecessary security risks, it makes sense to install available security updates as soon as they appear. Commonly these updates do not include new functions - but there are exceptions. With a security update last year, Samsung gave its top smartphones a number of new camera functions, such as an integrated QR code scanner .
