The Brothers Grimm are German linguists and researchers of German folk culture. Collected folklore and published several collections under the name "Tales of the Brothers Grimm", which became very popular.
Together with Karl Lachmann and Georg Friedrich Beneke, they are considered the founding fathers of Germanic philology and Germanistics.
"Children's and Family Tales" is a collection of fairy tales collected in the German lands and literary processed by the brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. Originally published in 1812. It is now known as the Brothers Grimm's Sacks.
In 1826, V. A. Zhukovsky translated two fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm into Russian from French for the magazine "Children's Interlocutor" ("Dear Roland and the Clear Flower Girl" and "The Briar Princess"). The first complete Russian translation was completed in 1863-1864. Folklorist V. Ya. Propp testified to the circulation in the Russian village of such fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm as Little Red Riding Hood and The Bremen Town Musicians (not previously characteristic of Russian folk stories) exclusively in the oral tradition. The influence of the plots of the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm can also be traced in three fairy tales by A. S. Pushkin: The Tale of the Dead Princess and the Seven Bogatyrs, The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish and the Bridegroom.
